ASBC Düsseldorf Get-Together – What makes an ideal expat destination?

23.06.2017 19:00 - 22:00

Have you ever lived abroad as an expat or are keen to venture overseas if the right opportunity comes up? Or are you simply curious to find out what the ideal expat destinations are and what exactly makes them so popular?

There are many reasons to become an expat or to simply pack your bags, board a plane and try it elsewhere… better opportunities, love, adventure, a different culture, a better lifestyle etc but it will always take determination to leave the old life behind.

In this presentation Johannes Grünhage will give an overview about the aspects that make a city attractive for international newcomers and expats. Interestingly a survey by expat network InterNations shows that Düsseldorf ranks fourth worldwide in terms of quality of life and career opportunities, followed by Singapore on rank five.

Düsseldorf owes its top rank with regard to factors like work-life-balance, quality of living, and last but not least the warm welcome culture which is offered to expats.

Keen to foster this welcoming approach, the City of Düsseldorf, the County of Mettmann and the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) Düsseldorf have set up the “Expat Service Desk”, which offers initial information and advice on living and working in the region to international professionals and their families as well as to companies which are hiring international professionals. As a platform and hub for all expat-related activities, the Expat Service Desk bundles information and relates with all respective institutions so that international newcomers gain comprehensive support on various important matters. Johannes Grünhage will also touch on some of the Asian expat destinations, share with us a few of the experiences he made while living and working in China and draw some comparisons between Shanghai and Düsseldorf.
